The Difference Between Value and Price

When you shop, do you look at price or the value?  Interestingly, individuals never ask "what's the value in this price" or simply "why would I want to pay this price for that item?"   ...but maybe that's what we should ask.   Because the DIFFERENCE is the WHAT and the  WHY  you are paying the listed price.

We all have different values for different products in our life, and what you value will be different than what another person values.   Please indulge me for a minute while I use a jewelry example.  Are you a "green" shopper?  Then you'll want to stay away from cheap plastic jewelry because they're made with a petroleum base and don't break down in landfills.  Plus, the manufacturing process is a negative addition to the carbon footprint.  In contrast, natural stones are nature's beauty being utilized in a decorative manner.   For many years, people have valued gemstones such as diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds.  There are so many more beautiful stones made into jewelry now, and many of them have an interesting story.  And all stones are not presented in equal beauty.  (More on this in another posting.)

What about Customer Service?  What about Integrity?  What about flexibility?  All of these have different values, but all are a part of making a product have VALUE to you based upon WHAT you value.  So the next time you are shopping, for jewelry or anything else, think about the VALUE of the product to you.

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July!
Are you celebrating today?  Hope so...because having our freedom is truly something to celebrate.  Take a special moment to pause and pray/reflect on those who gave their lives over 200 years ago so we could become our own nation.  God Bless America!

In all your fun celebrating, notice who around you is wearing jewelry.  Are there any men or boys wearing items?  Certainly many women and girls will be donning their red, white and blue star and flag shaped jewelry...Or at least something red, white, and/or blue. Because that's what we do.

So your mission today, should you choose to accept it (oh I hope so!) is to notice who is wearing jewelry and what they're wearing.  And while you're at it, don't forget to complement them!  By casually observing today, you'll know just a little more than you did before and be just a little more prepared to understand their "unique and personal style" for the next time you need to get them a gift.

Most importantly...celebrate with friends and family in good health and fun.

Back On with Jewelry Trends

We're back...and happy to be back.  So how has your year been thus far?  This year has been terrific for us!  With so many new designs, and so many new clients, we will be back to one posting a week.  We promise to keep it relevant.

Today's topic is Jewelry Trends!
As I read through Internet news, and look at what the stars are wearing on the red carpet, one thing is clear.  Natural stones and precious gems are prevalent in jewelry. Stones in the jewelry scene are generally large right now.  Necklaces may be thin but will have large components. Of course the stars are wearing pieces containing a volumes of diamonds in them, but you're likely not going to be wearing that same amount of bling.  Your bling will be more appropriate to you lifestyle, unless you're walking that red carpet.

Wear stylish jewelry created with precious and natural stones.  Many stones are cut in a variety of sizes, so you can wear the larger stones to be totally in style.  If you like smaller jewelry, you can add a larger stone for a pendant.  That works especially well if wearing one of the stylish long chains, ropes or lariats (my personal favorite). This summer, coral, turquoise, citrus lemon and lime are all showing up on clothing racks.  Are you wearing any of those colors?  If you don't want to buy too many new clothes items, you can accessorize with jewelry in those colors to trend with the best.  And, thank goodness, navy is making a comeback!

That's the scoop on a couple of summer trends.  But remember - What's really important is that you wear something that communicates YOUR personal style.

Published!

You know how you prepare, prepare, prepare...just like the contenders at the olympics?  Well that's how I've felt in getting the website store ready for launch.  Trying to ensure our T-s are crossed and all the I-s dotted, because once the website is launched it feels like competing for the gold.  And in a way I guess that's exactly what we're doing...competing for the "green" gold.

There is additional refining that we'll do along the way, but our task now is to load the online Boutique with all the inventory that is patiently waiting to find it's rightful owner.  So please bear with us while we load jewelry items daily.  Keep checking back.  Do you have any March Birthdays you need a gift for?  How about Anniversaries, Easter or any other special event?  We want those who find us to have a fun experience shopping, including YOU!

Here are all the addresses you want to know:  www.JewelryDesignsByRebecca.com is our website and BLOG.JewelryRocks.com is this site.  Please encourage those you know to check out the blog, because we'll be addressing YOUR questions starting next week.  Look to the side of the Blog where it says "Ask an Expert" and you'll see the email for your questions:  GEMS@JewelryRocks.com.

By the way, please ask your friends to subscribe to the blog so they can learn fun/interesting facts about jewelry and its component parts.

Until next week, THANK YOU!  ...and start sending questions.

Pixel by Pixel

Pixel by pixel, photo by photo, the website and online boutique is being built for your shopping pleasure.  Thanks so much to those of you who have continued to provide feedback.  If you're watching the progress, you'll hopefully notice that we've been implementing changes you've suggested, and the website is much better as a result.

So here's a question for you...How many new skills can a person learn at once and still make forward progress?   If you are aware of the stats, send them.  I've been learning where to find all the hidden controls in making a website work seamlessly, the importance of size (go ahead and giggle), program integration, and the frustration of not being able to change things without being a technology or code expert.  So thanks for your continued patience.  I'm still expecting to have some version of the shopping cart and store, which we're calling the online Boutique, published online by this weekend.  I will certainly let you know when it happens.

If you want to see some of the changes, go to http://JewelryDesignsByRebecca.com.

Testers MIA

Where oh where have my testers gone?  To those of you who sent me comments...Thank You!   You've helped me identify some of the changes that need to be made, and they will be done while I await my photo translation.  Thanks to my photographer, I'll soon be publishing better pictures, and more of them.  So comments are still welcome, and I hope the store will go live on Friday.

Stand by for a real site...just a few days to go.

Here we go...

Today is a big day for us...we went live with with the Jewelry Rocks! Blog (after a test run last night) and with our Jewelry Designs by Rebecca website for the first time!  For those of you who are helping me to test both sites - THANK YOU!!!  Please let me know if ever see any issues.  I'd like to think of you as our "techno watchdogs" if you will.

Testing...

Do you know who said..."I think I can, I think I can" ?  I don't, but the phrase keeps circling in my brain.  Why?  Because I know I can - with a little help from my friends.  I'm not just full of cliches today, but ideas as well.  And it's time to start sharing those ideas and get the existing website up and running now!  I'm so excited.

The website and it's plugins are ...

Still webbing

As I finish up the first design on our website, JewelryDesignsByRebecca.com, I am having flashbacks to the old days, around 1998 when dial-up was as good as it got.  We're so used to drag-n-drop or a few clicks and everything processes instantaneously, that waiting for a full minute today feels like a lifetime!   Working with high quality pictures has thrown a few wrinkle into the website launch date, so bear with us...just a few more days.  We're almost there. ... << MORE >>
